"Not a good choice. I am a first time owner- got as a class pet- and bought for the cool factor too. With 100 kids wanting to pet and play with the hamster, I need an escape proof cage the kids can't leave open. This isn't it! The petting area lid is hard to securely latch. Hamster got out and was lost for a week in the school. Then I discovered she could shove hard on the lid and the latches would pop open- found out when hubby found he sitting on the sofa at home with a hungrey cat sizing her up for a snack."

"I wouldn't consider this cage the best choice for all hamsters. I, too, bought the cage because it looked "cool". The part where the wheel attached to the axle is now broken, on both the wheel and the axle. The cage also does seem quite unstable, and it is most definitely not made for easy cleaning, as it says. For whatever reason, my hamster chooses to sleep in the wheel, and he also becomes sick because of it. A hamster that can sleep in a wheel like that pees, poops, stores food, sleeps, and eats in the wheel. With all of this going on, he is not able to run in there. In addition, it is too small for him anyways. His back is quite arched when he does try. I have tried finding an attachment for another cage that would allow a larger wheel, but there are none that would be reasonable. I have resorted to attaching a playpen to his cage, and made a cover for the playpen so that he can run in a large wheel without me having to worry about him getting out. (The crittertrail playpen is very easy for any hamster to get out of, but they just wait until you aren't looking.) As far as the door to the cage, I have not had problems with an escaping hamster. The door is very tight and shakes the cage upon closing. Not the best cage in my opinion..."

"I bought this cage a year ago and is still as brand new. My dwarf hammy Lucy looks happy. I recommend it."

"I personally HATE this cage! I bought it for my first cage, The wheel was NOISY, the plastic was crappy and most of it broke, Also the clips to hold the roof on broke when I got it, It never felt completely stable, I used SOOOO much scotch tape holding it together because the top yelllow compartment broke open soo easily! I was like any other first time hamster parent and bought htis cage cause it looked cool but crittertrail is a bad company and makes bad stuff so I would reccomend a wire cage not made by a big hamster brand name!! Also a good tip-the wire doors on almost all cages burst open sooo easily so just use some binder clips and your hamster is guaranteed to NEVER escape!!! Oh and I almost forget, the first night I gort this cage, at midnight my hamster escaped! Luckily I heard the door pop open or that would have been a bad experience!!"
